CAUSE: Found the Flyback on the DZ Board defective.

SUBJECT: No Audio on the left speaker only static noise.
CAUSE: Found CN7901 is not pluged in firmly. we see most of these set have the same problem with CN7901/CN7300/CN7309 AND CN7302, this is the first set that we have audio problem, most of them we have no Tuner.
RESOLUTION: Found CN7901 inside the Q Box was not plugged in firmly. We have experienced the same problem with CN7901, CN7300, CN7309, and CN7302. This is the first set that we had audio problem, most of them were no tuner.

SUBJECT: Picture has reddish cast with red digitalization
CAUSE: Found ribbon cable not seated correctly. Reinstalled ribbon cables

SUBJECT: Unit won't pickup any antenna or cable signal,
CAUSE: Found CN7901 was not seated firmly connected. This connector is inside the Q Box, not show in the S/M.

SUBJECT: No degauss
CAUSE: Unit had extreme discoloration on screen. Replacing the MZ Board resolved the purity problem.
RESOLUTION: Found, poor solder connection at the through hole that connects between R2326 and CN2002/pin 20 (DRCRLY) on the MZ Board.

SUBJECT: Horizontal line
CAUSE: The second horizontal line from the top may contain noise.
RESOLUTION: Please Note the very limited serial number range for this problem. If the seond horizontal line from the top of the plasma display contains noise please change the Digital Board part number 9-885-063-38. (NOTE: Digital board version 05C D-27 may contain this problem.

SUBJECT: No audio from one channel
CAUSE: SPEAKER NOT WORKING JM FOUND SPEAKERS LOOSE IN TOP CA BINET, ONE GROUND WIRE DISCONNECTED
RESOLUTION: Found speaker loose causing speaker wire to be disconnected.

SUBJECT: Purity out in the corner
CAUSE: This new chassis has new circuitry called DYNAMIC LANDING on the DL board. In the Service Mode you can find the Category LANDING and 4 items listed. This will correct purity problems in the corner.

CAUSE: The XS Chassis does not have a tuner on the AZ Board it only has the digital tuner in the Q Module. The NTSC tuner is mounted on the QT board in the Q module. The part number for the Q module is A1606918A

CAUSE: Found AZ Board was defective. Replacing the AZ board resoved the symptom.

SUBJECT: No Vertical
CAUSE: Tech found that the data line was being pulled down by the BM board.

SUBJECT: No video. The TV displays 3 white bars down the middle and when they select the On Screen Display (Menu), a portion of it comes up in each of the 3 sections. After the TV warms up the picture looks fine.
CAUSE: Tech found that the DIC board was defective.

CAUSE: Found the Bridge Rectifier D611 on the A Board shorted. Replacement of D611 restored normal operation. On the DA4 chassis this is D6530, or D6524.

SUBJECT: Picture shrinks after warm-up
CAUSE: Picture pulls in from all sides. B+ voltage to YCJ drops. IC3005 9v regulator pulls excessive current and input & output voltages drop, causing the input & output voltages at IC3021 5v regulator to drop. Also, R3073 (1 ohm / 2 watts) over dissipates. Replace IC3005 and R3073 on the A Board.

CAUSE: Found R3073 on the A Board located off of IC3005/pin input. IC3005 is the 9v regulator.

CAUSE: Found the Fuse holder on the F Board was defective.

CAUSE: Found connector CN8030 on the A Board was loose. Remounted the connector restored remote operation.

SUBJECT: Set shows Vertical foldover distorted picture in the lower half of the screen.
CAUSE: The Vertical drive signal is distorted on the input to the Vertical Output IC and so is the output wave form. The unit hasn't gone into shutdown even with Vertical drive disconnected Changed vertical output and jungle IC, has distorted vertical drive pulse form jugle even when the pin is floated. Vertical distortion can be caused by boost cap C8015 being open. If no vertical waveform at IC3006/pin 35 unit must shut down. Waveform from IC5004/pin 6 through yoke to Q8001 to IC3006/pin 35. As long as the Vertical amp IC5004 is showing the waveform gain means it working and problem in feed back loop. C8015, Yoke, R8036, R8039, R8040, R8015, or D8001 defective. I doubt the yoke is defective since no yoke has ever been reported defective on this chassis. RESOLUTION: Found on the A Board resistor R3073 on the input to the 9v regulator IC3005 had changed value. Should be 1 Ohm at 2 Watts. The resistor was reading 4.7 Ohms. This 9v regulator supplies 9v to the Video Processor IC3006/pin 61. The vertical drive signal is out putted on IC3006/52 & 53. Do to the lower voltage the waveform was distorted. Replacing the resistor restored the picture to normal.

SUBJECT: No picture from Main tuner. Video inputs OK.
CAUSE: Could not access the station. Check Data/clock lines they were OK. Had him connect the RF input directly to the tuner by passing the RF switch. Tuner now working. Found defective RF switch. Replacing RF switching Block restored normal operation.

SUBJECT: I replaced one of the speaker assemblies however it looks different than the one that I removed. Now the left and right speaker assemblies do not match.
CAUSE: For this model within the serial number range stated, if you replace the Speaker ASSY (L) or Speaker ASSY (R) you should replace them both. After the above serial number range the style changed slightly so change the speaker assemblies as a pair.

SUBJECT: Dead
CAUSE: Found T8005 (FBT), Q8035 (SW Reg), and Q8038 (H OUT) defective on the D Board.

SUBJECT: NVM storage information
CAUSE: IC704: Main Micro NVM. Stores user data for picture settings (user brightness, user color, user sharpness etc.). Also stores ID0-ID7. Note for ATSC models User picture settings will be stored in Q box. IC707: PF Micro NVM. Stores all picture and audio settings (Sub Brightness, Sub color, RGB Gain/Offset etc.), all DRC and MID settings as well as main deflection (geometry data). IC857: Digital Registration NVM. Stores all PJE data.

SUBJECT: Dead 6 Blinks. B+ error. Relay (RY1901) on F Board is chattering. The relay would click three times then power LED flashed six times. Standby 7 v OK.
CAUSE: Found problem was with the Q Box. Ordered new Q Box (70 model) T99861249. Q Box (60 model) T99861248.

SUBJECT: Picture gets bright then shuts down. After repairs tech noticed a mark was created on all 3 CRT's.
CAUSE: Found Video Output was defective causing the failure of the 200v line. 200 volt line has two fuse resistors R7301 (10 ohm 1/4w) on the CB Board. R8225 (1 ohm 1/2w) on the D board. R8208 (0.47 ohm 1/2w) also on the D Board. All three resistors are in series. One or all 3 could be open. After replacing 2 resistors and Video Output IC set returned to normal operation. CRTs will need to be changed due to phosphor damage. On Models KDP-51WS550, KDP-57WS550, KDP-65WS550 CB Board resistor is R9335 10 ohm 1/4w. D Board resistor is R6509. NOTE: This resistor may be a jump wire according to the schematic. Models: KP-51WS520, KP-57WS520 These models have a fuse resistor on all 3 CRT Boards. CB R9335 10 ohm 1/4w CR R9110 10 ohm 1/4w CG R9211 10 ohm 1/4w On the D Board R6509 is a jumper wire according to the schematic.

SUBJECT: Center focus is OK but poor side focus
CAUSE: If the CRT was replaced and the wrong P/N was used based on the sets serial number you will get this symptom. Check that the CRT P/N is for the serial number range of the set.

SUBJECT: Microsoft X-Box HDAV Pack causing flickering issues.
CAUSE: This was due to the HDAV Pack accessory becoming intermittently defective. It was not an external connector/cable problem. The HDAV pack accessory sold by Microsoft is required to connect the X BOX to HD component Video 5 and 6 inputs. Using video inputs 1-4 without the HDAV pack there was no problem.

SUBJECT: Brightness changes.
CAUSE: Found Shading Amps IC3011 and IC3012 were very hot to touch. Replaced and unit restored to normal operation.

SUBJECT: Black sleeve around the anode lead or a clear sleeve
CAUSE: CRT come with either a Black sleeve around the anode lead or a clear sleeve. Is there a difference between these CRT's?
RESOLUTION: This has no effect on the performance of this CRT.

SUBJECT: Blue cast on top and bottom of screen
CAUSE: ASC replaced all 3 CRT's for original flicker problem. After replacing customer complained about a blue haze on top and bottom of picture. ASC stated when they put an all white signal they can see blue tint on top and bottom of picture. This is even more noticeable when they decrease intensity of white pattern to about 50%. They also stated with black and white signal the middle of the picture is yellowish all the way across.
RESOLUTION: Found when I readjusted the Blue Offset adjustment (SLIN) I changed data item MPIN instead of SLIN (side by side in service). MPIN should be fixed at 0, if not it caused this type of Uniformity issue.

SUBJECT: Is the Contrast Screen coated on both sides
CAUSE: Are these screens coated on the outside, or is the coloration is part of the material?
RESOLUTION: The AR coating is on both sides (dip coat).

SUBJECT: Can not record from I Link
CAUSE: Customer is attempting to connect a KD34XBR2 and a JVC DVHS via I LINK and when he attempts to record he only gets a blank gray screen. When this model was introduced it was only compatible with the DHGM55CV Sony Digital Cable box, any ideas if this JVC product should be compatible? The KD-34XBR2 only accepts input from an D-VHS and will not output a stream for recording. The I Link was only designed to accept input from the DHGM55CV Sony Digital Cable box

SUBJECT: No DVD close caption in progressive mode
CAUSE: Get the Closed Captioning to work on the TV on Video 5 or Video 6, but only If the DVD player is set to interlaced.mode. If the DVD player is set to progressive mode, the Closed Captioning does not appear on the TV. Subtitles will appear, but not the Closed Captioning.
RESOLUTION: Progressive type video (480P, or 720P) does not have the capability for CC, XDS, or V-Chip on the transmitting device, or decoding device. This goes for all video products. The current standard (EIA608, 708) only covers 480i Interlace video. I also checked the DVD output with progressive scan and no CC data is output on the Y signal of component video. If the customer wants to use Progressive mode on the DVD player they must use sub-tittles. Another method is to use Interlace mode on the DVD player, and Progressive mode on the TV set. The CC info. is decoded before the video is converted to Progressive by DRC.

SUBJECT: Stuck in Full Mode
CAUSE: A customer has the captioned model and is having a problem since connecting a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100HD box. The set is stuck in Full mode. He is using video 5, and I asked him to try video 6 but there was no difference.
RESOLUTION: The Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100HD box must be set to 1080i. If this is so the TV will expect a 1008i signal and force the set into the full mode. Customer should set is box to auto or 480i when not on a 1080i program source.

SUBJECT: T5003 standby rectifier circuit
CAUSE: The standby rectifier circuit supplying T5003 does not seem very clean DC wise. Are they using the AC ripple to induce the transformer to produce the 5 volts for IC6106 to create the 5v standby?
RESOLUTION: As you recall, we had a question as to whether the RA-5A standby supply could function the way it is drawn in the schematic. Rectified and filtered DC is shown driving the primary and this defies what I had always been taught. A couple of folks in engineering claimed the DC ripple was sufficient to accomplish this. Upon further examination of the board sent to me by Herb, I found that the transformer has components inside the casing. No low impendence readings can be read at the pins. Approximately 500 ohms is read in one direction and infinity at the other across the designated primary winding pins. The same applies across the secondary pins. This clearly indicates the presence of semi-conductor components. Looks like we have a self contained oscillator and transformer package. Now if I can just find a way to get inside of this thing..........

SUBJECT: No audio or video from the Select Out jacks when watching DTV channels or component video sources.
CAUSE: The customer is using the Select Out jacks, but does not get any video or audio from those jacks when watching DTV channels, or component video sources connected to video-5 or video-6. CAUSE The set is operating as designed. Only NTSC (VHF/UHF/cable) signals, and signals from sources connected to video-1 through video-4 will output signals to the Select Out jacks.
RESOLUTION: If the customer only wants to output the audio to external audio equipment, the Audio Out jacks can be used for all sources, including DTV channels and component video sources.

SUBJECT: No picture, just pale raster with retrace lines and light blink 5 times.
CAUSE: Tech. had found R9051,R9052 & R9053 were not soldered on one side. After soldering them back, discovered missing 12 VDC on the C MCB.
RESOLUTION: Verify the IC5008, D5029.

CHASSIS: RA5A
MODEL: KDP57XBR2, KDP65XBR2
SUBJECT: One CRT loses focus.
CAUSE: Electrical focus for Red did not have any noticeable effect. Blue and green worked normal. With a cross hatch displayed, Red would gradually lose focus and would jump back to perfect focus and them would gradually start to defocus again. This pattern continues to repeat and only is several seconds in duration CAUSE Apparently the Red High voltage supply was not fully closed. Once the Red High voltage dropped to a certain point, the potential became great enough to arc over the open circuit internal to the HV block. Once the arc occurred, the capacitive nature of the CRT would retain the voltage, but it would again start to dissipate. Suspect the same thing could occur to the Green and Blue.
RESOLUTION: Replace the High voltage block Ref #212.

SUBJECT: XBR400 CRT as a jig for the KD-34XBR2?
CAUSE: Servicer uses a KV-32XBR400 CRT & Yoke as a jig so he does not have to carry a large TV set back to the shop. He just takes the chassis to the shop and hooks the defective chassis to the KV-32XBR400 CRT & yoke for servicing. He would like to know if he could use the same CRT & Yoke to test a KD-32XBR2 chassis. Is the pin assignments and socket the same on both CRTs? Is the yoke impedance the same on both units? High Voltage?
RESOLUTION: As far as repair jig, I think it is good idea. It can be useful jig for most of cases except some case of deflection related such as geo. distortion, convergence, screen size and so on. Both pin assignments CTR and DY connector have compatibility. It is OK to use as a repair jig, it is not for a part for actual replacement. And both models KV-32XBR400 and KD-34XBR2 are double scan.

SUBJECT: Cannot see stock market tape in zoom mode
CAUSE: For Stock Market Ticker below they can use the Vertical centering control in the User wide mode menu for WideZoom, and Zoom.

SUBJECT: Picture blinks, blanks, flashes when displaying 480p signals through video-5.
CAUSE: While watching 480 progressive scan signals through the video-5 input (typically a DVD player) the picture may blank out momentarilly and erratically and resembles blinking, blanking, and/or flashing.
RESOLUTION: Engineering and Technical Services are preparing B-boards with a firmware change that will prevent this problem. They should be available sometime around Nov. 7, 2001, and a service bulletin will be issued. In the meantime, the problem can be prevented by moving the 480p source from video-5 to video-6.

SUBJECT: No audio from optical digital output.
CAUSE: The optical output does not output audio except when viewing DTV programs. When viewing other sources (cable, NTSC RF, VCR, DVD etc.) there is no light output from the connector. CAUSE The owner's manual for the KD-34XBR2 does not mention this fact. The owner's manual for the KDP-57XBR2 and KDP-65XBR2 are OK.
RESOLUTION: There is no problem with the set. The optical output connector only outputs digital signals when viewing DTV programs.

SUBJECT: Intermittent blanking
CAUSE: I've been getting quite a few calls regarding intermittent blanking on our recent projection models. If the customer complains of picture blanking out while he is viewing the set, we are more than likely dealing with one of the CRTs being weak. In past models I would simply turn the screen controls for each tube and see which one was very touchy. This located the weak tube. The newer sets, however, have very touchy screen controls under normal conditions. I have tried a new method on the last few calls and it seems to work quite well.
RESOLUTION: Have the tech put the unit into external video mode with no video input. Adjust the screens for each color right to the point of cutoff. Measure the voltage at the cathode of each CRT. The weak tube will have a noticeably lower voltage than the strong tubes. You should see about 180VDC on a good tube while a weak tube will show around 160V. This is the IK circuit driving the weak tube harder in order to get a return pulse. So far, this has worked quite well.

CAUSE: When cold the set comes on OK after warm up it won't come back on
RESOLUTION: A board replacement corrected the problem.

SUBJECT: Remote inoperative
CAUSE: Remote inoperative, also manual key pad has wrong feature when pressing channel up it activated flash focus. Unplug CN3017 on the A Board and confirm the remote operation. If it works check manual key switch
RESOLUTION: S112 Flash Focus switch on the HA Board was defective

SUBJECT: Doesn't come on hears a click and blinks 7 times
CAUSE: Replaced D board but same problem. Found 200V line was reading 135V. It seems no HD. Found 9V line was reading 1 Volt. R3073 was open. R3073 located on the input of the 9 volt regulator IC3005 on the A Board.

CAUSE: The following statement was included in the Service Manuals in error: NOTE: When you replace printed circuit boards or devices or CRT's, and when correction is drastically necessary, press the '7' + ENTER on the remote commander to initialize the data in the Projector Engine mode. Press the MUTING + ENTER on the remote commander to write the data. This note is intended for use by the factory during production and should not be performed by service technicians. Remove 'NOTE' from Service Manual (Section 2-12-1).

SUBJECT: Woofer Error displayed when wall mounted.
CAUSE: I get the error message TV Woofer Error on my display when I power on the TV or change the channel. My TV is wall mounted and I am using an after market wall mount bracket.
RESOLUTION: The TV stand for this model has a woofer speaker mounted inside of it. If a customer mounts the TV to a wall using an after market wall mount bracket they will see Woofer Error displayed on their TV. Note: This error will NOT be displayed if the customer uses the Sony wall mount bracket as the Sony bracket contains a woofer speaker. To turn off the error message enter the service mode. This can be done by pressing DISPLAY, 5, Vol +, Power ON while the TV is in Standby mode. Once in the service mode proceed to the TVM service menu. RESOLUTION: If the capacitor C553 is damaged, (shows subject symptom) then replace with same type capacitor, but the capacitor must be mounted in reverse of the polarity reference symbol on the circuit board.

CAUSE: Found poor contact was made with the interface cable. Applied some contact cleaner to the interface cable plug and the problem was fixed. This only indicates that something in the display section is not responding correctly. It can be as simple as the display section not being plugged in or the DVI/Data cable not connected all the way. Normal troubleshooting of the display section should occur with the determination of the failure to board level (G, P, K, F, or F2).

CAUSE: No pix but has sound. All supply voltages ok. No voltage on pin 34 of IC304.
RESOLUTION: Resolder L1306.

CAUSE: was no Vert. raster, only curved RGB lines across the bottom half of the picture, audio and H.V. OK.
RESOLUTION: F-902 open, IC-1707 overheated. Replaced both parts, plus IC-1704 and IC1705. After 3 minutes IC-1707 went out again. Isolated CKT, Scope check showed no VSAW+ from IC-902, only noise. Found + and -5V supplies on the D BOARD shorted by IC-907, MPX IC. After 4 hours they found the Red CRT was shorting. After replacing the CRT the unit was restorded to working condition.

CAUSE: When a black background comes in contact with a lighter shade, the lighter shade will smear into the black. It looks as if a flashlight was shinning from the inside out onto the black.
RESOLUTION: On delivery, a lot of these units are being dismantled in order to get through a doorway and if the interception plate that goes between the mirror and chassis (see page 44 #2) is not put back properly, it will reflect light improperly.

Y and C signal is coming from IC 1002 on U board that is A/V selector. Check this IC input and output pins and found output siganl is bad. Replace IC1002 and unit was restored.

CAUSE: S/M states C1713 and C1718 on page 162 are 0.001 uf/caps In reality they are 10uf/35 volt Tantalum. -Request: Need the correct P/N.
RESOLUTION: The correct P/N is 1-131-353-00. These caps are located on the D Board IC-905/pin 3 and IC906/pin3. Some limited boards had the 10MF caps, but the 0.001uf caps should be the ones used. The Tantalum are use if the unit is operated below 10 degrees.

Found no vertical deflection pulses out of IC1706/pin 2.. Found 14.89 volts at IC1706/pin 2. This was causing no vertical deflection on the red gun and caused the scan line to be hitting off the bell of the tube reflecting onto the front causing the glow.
RESOLUTION: Replaced IC1706 and restored normal operation.

CAUSE: The unit has no picture and no high voltage.
RESOLUTION: Found -15v power supply line was missing. Trace -15V and found -12v not supplied from IC905 on the E board. Replacing IC905 solved the problem.

CAUSE: Unit had no picture and standby light on front panel flashing.
RESOLUTION: Suspected unit was in IK blanking. While troubleshooting unit discovered 3 volt IK pulse on video input to green C board. Blue and red video inputs had 1.5 volts pulse, normal. None of video inputs to C boards had video. Necessary to turn the G2 way up on green tube to get video to come up on all 3 tubes. IK pulse on video input to G board returned to 1.5 volts bue green tube exhibited retrace lines. Found Q733 on the Green C Board leaky. Replaced and unit functioned properly.

CAUSE: Customre reported when PIP function selected PIP channel # would appear but no PIP window. Swapping would produce PIP picture on main screen but still no PIP window.
RESOLUTION: Checking service menu, item PPLL found to have wrong reference data. Changing from 0 to 1 restored PIP window and function. PVPO & PHPO needed to be adjusted to correctly position the window.

SUBJECT: NO POWER DUE TO LEAKY D612 ON G BOARD
CAUSE: Unit would not turn on. Technician removed transformer T608, and check it. Because it was getting hot. However, this transformer has no problrem. I discovered there was 1 volt on pin 3 of IC602.
RESOLUTION: Found leaky diode D623. Replaced it and unit is fine.

SUBJECT: NO POWER FROM G BOARD(PWR SPLY), REPLACED T601
CAUSE: Dealer replaced board after not finding why Q603, Q614 were not oscillating when the dc voltages were normal. He replaced Q603, Q614, T603 and confirmed that everything else was ok. Issued MCB and had old board sent to me.
RESOLUTION: Confirmed dealers work. Then checked T601, pin 11-15 and pin 12-16. They measured 345uh and only 3 rings using sencor Z meter. A good transformer reads 2.95mh and has 100 rings. Replacing T601 restored the power supply.

SUBJECT: NO RASTER, REPAIRED CG16/PIN 3 CONNECTOR
CAUSE: No raster, if G2 is increased, the picture gets very bright with bowed retrace lines, then reducing G2, the picture turns negative and blanks again. Servicer had 3 units with this symptom.
RESOLUTION: Found a chard spot on connector CG16/pin 3, this is the 9v line. Cleaned board and repaired connector CG-16. I believe you meant CG16 connector not CG13. What caused the burn on the connector?
